St. Lawrence Market |
The St. Lawrence Market is the focal point of the
neighbourhood and since 1803 and has provided Toronto's
residents with the best selection of fresh fruits,
vegetables, meat, cheese and delicious baked goods. During
its 200-year history, the Market has also served as
Toronto's seat of government, a police station and a jail.
It has witnessed the city's evolution from a colonial
outpost into a vibrant city. There are many historic
buildings in the area including the famous Flat Iron
building, and one of the most photogenic vistas in the city.
The area is also home to Toronto's first courthouse who's
claim to fame is that it hosted the last beheading in North
America. |

street", the tour guide points out some of the most popular
sites such as the Toronto Eaton Centre, the Elgin & Winter
Garden Theatre, the Canon Theatre, BCE Place, Union Station,
and the Hockey Hall of Fame. |
Waterfront |
The Air Canada Centre, the home of the Toronto Maple
Leafs hockey team, is located just north of Lakeshore
Boulevard. Just south of Lakeshore Boulevard is the
Harbourfront Centre.
Harbourfront Centre introduces Toronto audiences to artists
and art forms that would not normally be seen in commercial
venues, exploring new frontiers in the arts and creative
expression.
Harbourfront Centre hosts public activities and events over
a 10-acre site encompassing theatre and performance stages
as well as art galleries. |
